Employment Testing Process

Qualified candidates, after submitting an application, must schedule a time for a pre-employment evaluation.

The pre-employment evaluation consists of the following:

Written

A written examination consisting of 100-150 multiple-choice questions covering knowledge objectives from the National Standard EMT-Paramedic Training Curriculum.

Code Blue Scenario

Candidates will be evaluated in their ability to manage a cardiac arrest, including actual delivery of airway management, electrical therapy, drug administration, dynamic ECG interpretation, and directing other members of their cardiac arrest team. Candidates should be prepared to deal with family members, first responders, and hospital personnel. Candidates should use AHA-ACLS standards as their guidelines for treatment.

Panel Interview

Candidates will spend approximately thirty to forty-five (30-45) minutes answering general questions about prior education, work history, and attitudes about EMS.

Offers

The Chief or designee will make employment offers to those candidates successful in the assessment process.

Post-Offer Testing

Applicants who are offered employment must successfully complete both a physical and psychological assessment. The physical assessment is designed to test an applicant's work capacity, strength and flexibility, and cardio-respiratory capacity.
