| Ted McFarlane started his EMS career in Lawrence, Kansas in 1969 working for a private ambulance provider. He accepted the Director position for the newly formed Douglas County Ambulance Service in 1974, and soon thereafter, completed his law degree at the University of Kansas. Mr. McFarlane received his paramedic training at KU Medical Center in 1977. He has served on the Governor's EMS Advisory Council (now called the Kansas Board of EMS) and as Chairman of the Kansas Association of EMS Administrators (now the Administrator's Society of the Kansas EMS Association). Mr. McFarlane continued his position in Lawrence for twenty-six years and during the last four years served as the Deputy Chief of the Lawrence-Douglas County Fire and Medical Department. In 2000, he retired from Lawrence-Douglas County, and accepted the position of Director of EMS at Johnson County Med-Act. Director McFarlane's goal is best reflected in the Department Mission Statement: To provide and assure the highest level of Emergency Medical Services in an effective, caring and professional manner.
